Hi! My name is Melissa (Missy) Gibbs and I am going to be your first grade teacher! I am so excited for all the learning, exploring, and fun that we are going to have this year!

  My Bachelor’s of Science degree includes certifications in General Elem. Education (K-8) with a Reading Specialization and Special Ed. (EC-12). I’m proud to say my (30+) years of experience have all been in 1st Grade right here at The Gap.

  My husband and I both grew up in Abilene. We have been married 35 years. He runs our family businesses, Gibbs Paint & Body North and South. Our children, Jessie (30) and Jordan (28) are both married and are JN & TTU graduates! We have 4 wonderful grandchildren, Coleman “Gibbs” Young (3 years old), Michal Jo Young (1 year) and Lainey Gibbs (2 years old) and our newest grand Lyla Gibbs (3 weeks old)! You can be assured that you will hear plenty about them all, Queenie loves her grands. Family is very important to me!

  I am thrilled to get to know you and your ‘firstie”. My goal is to create a fun, safe learning environment that will allow your child to find success within my classroom. We will learn a LOT together, make lots of mistakes, and have even MORE FUN!

  I’m always blessed to have the opportunity to play such an important role in a child’s life and I thank you for sharing your child with me. I am looking forward to our year as we learn and grow together! I know it’s going to be wonderful! Go Indians!

My pets: my lap yorkie-Lola, our shi-chi-Piper, & our class guinea pig Sir Chewys

In my free time I like to: go shopping, read,  Yoga classes at Abilene Yoga House, and take Bubble Baths
