Calculator Policy -  (8th Grade Math ONLY)

Parents and Students,

Much of what students are tested over today in mathematics is concept-based, and requires the student to understand multiple representations of a problem. They are expected to understand the numerical, graphical, analytical and stated versions of many situations. The graphing calculator is a tool that will enable students to make the connections between the various forms of any problem situation.

Since a graphing calculator will be required for daily assignments, local tests and state tests(STAAR), students will need to have a graphing calculator on a daily basis. There is a class set available for your student to use while in class. When your student is not in class there are a couple of options. You can purchase your own calculator, or students may check out a calculator for use as needed. If your student decides to check out a calculator they are responsible for it financially if lost or damaged. The cost to replace a calculator is $50 or you may find and purchase a suitable replacement. A calculator will not be issued unless the calculator agreement form below is completed.

Below is the link with a form for you to fill out indicating that you would like to be able to check out a calculator and that you will assume all responsibility for loss or damage to the calculator.
