5th Grade Policies
Student Planner
Each child is given their own student planner. They write their daily assignments and upcoming activities in the planner every day. This is a way to monitor your child’s activities and assignments on a daily basis. The planner is to be taken home but MUST be brought back the very next morning. The planner must be INITIALED DAILY by a parent/guardian. The planner is also our method to communicate your child’s daily behavior.
- Check out the 2 handouts, CLASSROOM RULES and BEHAVIOR CLIP CHART, with more information about our behavior management system.
Take Home Folder
Folders will be sent home every Monday. The folder will include graded papers (which need to be taken out and looked over by the guardian), amd any important handouts from the school or from the 5th grade teachers.
Homework
Homework consists of unfinished assignments and studying for tests. Students will be given time in class and a built-in tutorial period everyday to work on assignments. Please make sure your STUDENT completes their unfinished assignments and turns them in the following day.
Grading Policy
Tests will count twice in the relating subject. Daily grades will count once. NO TEST MAY BE CORRECTED FOR A HIGHER GRADE.
Late Work Policy
If an assignment is late, the highest grade possible is a 70. When the assignment is turned in, we will grade and deduct points from a 70. However, because we have not been in school since March due to Covid-19, we are going to start the late work policy the Tuesday after Labor Day, September 8. We are trying to have the students be responsible and be prepared for middle school. Most assignments are completed in class and they have the extra tutorial time towards the end of the day, so there is no reason for late assignments.
Corrections Policy
Papers that are graded will be sent home every Monday in their “Monday Folder.” However, any papers that are below a 70 may be corrected, but the corrections must be done at school. Therefore, we will have allotted time during school to work on corrections. The paper will then be sent home the next Monday with the original grade and the corrected grade circled and marked “Corrected at School”. The highest grade possible for corrections is a 70. However, a student cannot correct a test for a grade change. We will go over tests in class as a whole or small group.
