Hello Buffalo Gap 4th Grade!
My name is Rachel Smith and I am about to begin my eighth year of teaching at Buffalo Gap, but I'm not new to teaching. After graduation from Tarleton State University, I began my teaching career teaching 3rd grade at Arlington Country Day School. Upon moving to Abilene, I began teaching 3rd grade. Next, I taught kindergarten for 14 years and learned so much about the way children learn. My last two years before coming to Buffalo Gap I taught 2nd grade in Abilene. I am excited to be teaching 4th grade Math, Science, and Writing in the Jim Ned School District where my children have attended!
My husband of 31 years, is Matt Smith and we are the owners of Fry-Smith Funeral Home in Tuscola. We have 3 children. Our oldest son, Morgan, complete his Mechanical Engineering degree at Texas A&M in December 2018 and is a NAVAL Officer training to be a piot. (I'm just a little proud!) Chandler, our middle son, just graduated from Texas A&M studying Nuclear Engineering and is waiting to have interviews to be accepted to Navy Officer School and the Nuclear Program. Our daughter, Eliesabeth, is attending Texas A&M and is junior studying Industrial Distribution.
I look forward to exploring and learning with the scholars at Buffalo Gap Elementary School! Please know that it is a privilege for me to teach your scholar as well as a privilege for me to get to know you as we team up to make 4th grade a success for your child.
