Participation in UIL Academic Events

*Students MUST BE PASSING to be on a team.

* Students may be on a maximum of 3 UIL teams.

Try-out sheets will be outside of teachers’ doors.

The deadline to sign up is Monday, October 4th.

Teams will be chosen by November 10th.

Practices will be before school (tutorials) or during enrichment. All
speaking events will practice before school.

For each team, students make and compete, they will receive an exemption for a final. With this, the student will choose which final to exempt or skip. This must be teacher approved.

*UIL Meet is December 13th in Merkel.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS FOR MIDDLE SCHOOL PARTICIPANTS.

(1) Student’s Eligibility. An individual may participate in UIL competition or contests as a representative of the participant school he/she attends if that student has been in attendance and has passed the number of courses required by state law and by rules of the State Board of Education, and is passing the number of courses required by state law and by rules of the State Board of Education.

(2) Junior high students are not prohibited from competing at a grade level higher than the one in which they are enrolled.
