I am so excited to have the opportunity to work with your children this year. Just a little about me...

I was born and raised in Eagle River, AK. I came to Texas for college and attended Hardin-Simmons University from 1994-1998. My husband Scott and I met while at HSU. We were married in 1998 and have been in this area ever since. I taught 4th grade in Abilene for 9 years and absolutely loved it. Once we decided to have children, I decided to be a stay-at-home mom. I have two boys, Tytus and Brody. They both attend Jim Ned Schools and we have loved our experience here. Once the boys both got into school, I decided to get back into education. I taught Pre-K for 3 years and loved every minute of it. Then taught 5th grade math/science last year. I am so glad to have the opportunity to teach 4th grade this year. We have a lot of great things planned for this year. I am so excited that I have a chance to work with you and your children! We are going to have an AMAZING year!!

2018-2019 4th Grade Policies

We are excited about the new school year and about the opportunity to work with your child.  Here is some information you may need to have while your child is in the fourth grade.

Conference Period: 2:30-3:15 pm daily.  If you would like to visit with us and/or this time is not convenient, please call the office in order to make arrangements.

Student Planners
: Each child is given their own student planner.  They write their daily assignments and upcoming activities in the planner every day.  This is a way to monitor your child’s activities and assignments on a daily basis. The planner is to be taken home but MUST be brought back the very next morning. The planner must be INITIALED DAILY by a parent/guardian. The planner is also our method to communicate your child's daily behavior.

Weekly Folders
:  Each Friday your child will bring home a folder that contains his/her weekly work. Please review the graded work, correct any failing papers, and return their folder with corrections on Monday.

Homework
:  Homework consists of any unfinished class work, library books, Science or Social Studies reports and studying for tests.  They will be given time in class to work on their assignments and there is a tutorial time built into the schedule.  However, there may be some extra time needed to do it at home.  Tutorial period is scheduled from 2:00-2:30 pm every day.  Students may work on unfinished assignments, get added assistance or study for a test.  When a student has an excused absence, they have the same number of days that they were absent in order to make up any missed class work.  Example: Student is absent on Monday and returns to school on Tuesday.  The student will be given the work on Tuesday and will have one day to complete the assignments and turn them in on Wednesday.

Late Work
:  Students will have an opportunity to complete late work during lunch. Late work will be deducted 10 points daily for the first three days.  Late work will not be accepted more than three days past due.  A grade of 0 is earned for missing work.

Tardy Policy
: Students report to the cafeteria until they are dismissed at 7:50 am to go their classrooms.  Instruction will begin by 7:55 a.m.  Any student arriving to class after the 7:55 a.m. dismissal bell will be marked tardy. After the third tardy of the six weeks, the student will be sent to lunch detention that day.

Report Cards
:  Report cards will be sent home every six weeks.  We will also send a progress report home with students that are failing, or are in danger of making a failing grade, on the third week of each six weeks in order to keep you informed of your child’s progress up to that point. This will give the children three weeks to bring up any unsatisfactory grades.

Grading Policy
:  Test will count twice in the relating subject.  Daily grades will count once.  NO TEST MAY BE CORRECTED FOR A HIGHER GRADE.  Daily work with a grade of less than 70 can be corrected and turned in by the following Monday.  Corrections will raise their grade but not give them a 70 average.  Their new grade is therefore an average of the original grade and the corrected one.

Example: Original grade -50

Corrected grade-70

Averaged new grade-60

4th Grade Rules

  1. No talking or disruption during class instruction.

  2. Change classes quietly and orderly

  3. Listen to and follow directions

  4. Be prepared for class with supplies

  5. Homework turned in by due date

The student will mark their daily color position they end on in their planners. Any needed notations or correspondence about behavior will be in your student's planner. The planners will go home daily and will return to school each day. Please check over your student's planner EACH night and INITIAL.

Consequences:

Severe behavior such as hitting another student, foul language on school grounds and excessive disruptive behavior will automatically be sent to the office.

Students which have turned in all assignments and have 2 or less severe behavior color positions (orange/red) marked in their planners will be eligible for a Teacher's Choice activity on Fridays.
