Mrs. Ross

This is my eighteenth year to teach & my eighth year to teach at Jim Ned! I have previously taught 1st, 2nd, & 3rd grades at Lubbock-Cooper, Hawley, & Winters. I will be teaching reading language arts this year.

I am a 2001 graduate of Jim Ned and a Texas Tech graduate. My husband’s name is Tavis, & we have 2 kids. Rustyn is a sophomore & Beau is in seventh grade.

Conference Time:1:35-2:25

We will be having weekly spelling tests on Thursdays. If your child makes a 90 or above,  they will not take the test again on Friday. I will keep the better grade. This gives students a chance to see if they need to study more. The students will be getting a list on Friday for the next week & it will be posted in our weekly newsletter.

Writing & Grammar

We will be doing various types all year long! Students will be writing biographies, poetry, expository writing, narratives, journals, and much more! I keep a writing folder with all their writing all year. It will be fun to see their improvement throughout the year.

We will be learning a new set of homophones daily. We will also learn grammar rules to apply to your writing.


Accelerated Reader

 We want kids to enjoy reading and be rewarded in a fun way for their awesome reading. I have lots of fun rewards I will be giving for AR points. The library has tons of brand new books that I can't wait for yall to read!

Reading & Book Reports

We will be reading class novels this year including Charlotte's Web, Shiloh,  and Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing.  Each book will cover many different skills.

Students will be assigned different book reports this year! We will be doing a diorama, cereal box book report, and a mobile. These are fun ways to incorporate our TEKS. Please look for more info each six weeks in students' planners.
