Welcome to the 2021/2022 School year!! I am the Resource Math teacher at JNMS. I have been a Teacher of the Deaf for most of my 20 year career, but I have also taught American Sign Language. This is my second year as a Special Educator with Jim Ned CISD.  I have taught in Texas (Dallas), Arizona, and Washington. We moved back to Texas 6 years ago, into this unknown West Texas area!! My daughters (Grace-16 and Claire-10) attend school here, and my husband is an Engineer for BNSF railroad (I know...the NOISY train!). In the picture is our beloved exchange student from Italy! She was with us for part of the 2019-2020 school year.  I am excited to be a part of this EXTRAORDINARY Jim Ned Middle School Staff!!

Please don't hesitate to call or email with any questions!!

Course Description: Students in resource math will have an academic program specially designed to meet their individual needs. All effort is made to align goals and objectives on the IEP with state standards.

Required Supplies: Have the following supplies available daily: 3-ring 1” binder, package lined paper, pencils.

Grading Policy: Grade calculation will be determined by the following weighting convention:

Major Projects/Tests/Quizzes………. 40%

Classwork/Homework………………..60%

Attendance Policy:

In the case of excused absences, the student will receive one day for each day absent to complete any missed work. In the case of unexcused absences, the assignment/acceptance of make-up work will be at the teacher's discretion.

Late Grade Policy:  Late papers will be accepted for two days only, but 15 points will be deducted per day.

Academic Integrity: Any student caught cheating will receive a grade of zero on the assignment, without opportunity to resubmit. Additional administrative disciplinary action may occur, per school policy.

Student Conduct:  Students are to act in a way that allows all students to learn and the teacher to teach at all times. Students should be respectful and kind to all others in the room at all times. Please be familiar with the dress code. There will be no food and drinks in the classroom other than water. Students should leave all electrical devices turned off and put away in backpack/purse. The Jim Ned Middle School discipline plan is in the student code of conduct for you and your student to be familiar with. Students with IEPs will typically follow the below action plan if behavior becomes a barrier to learning:

  1. Teacher will meet with student to discuss behaviors and performance, as well as needed areas of improvement.
  2. Teacher will meet with student for a second time to discuss if accommodations/modifications are meeting the student needs.
  3. If problem persists, home and administration contact will be in an effort to bring positive resolution and get things back on track. Decision will be made to enforce a consequence which could include: in-school intervention, in-school suspension, detention, out-of-school suspension, class/schedule change, and/or other solutions as deemed appropriate and beneficial.
  4. All progressive action will be documented and maintained in the student file.
